Arvind’s Knit Denim Supports Consumers on the Move

Even before the pandemic, consumers were increasingly turning to athleisure as streetwear. But during Covid-19, this quest for comfort has accelerated.

India’s Arvind Limited is taking note of the need for stretchier indigo fashions with its Infiknity collection. Made with processes including circular knitting for seamless construction, the textiles are designed for the active individual.

Arvind’s CEO, Mr Aamir Akhtar chatted with Carved in Blue about the idea behind Infiknity, why denim knits are in demand and how indigo knitwear could contribute to sustainable savings.

Carved in Blue: Why is Infiknity addressing consumer trends?

Aamir: The introduction of knitted denims provides a solution that is versatile and at the same time meets the needs of the user. With active lifestyle and fashion-conscious mindset on the rise, garments that fulfill the necessity of athleisure are the need of the hour. The constant desire of consumers is comfortable garments which are durable as well as bridge the gap between workwear and loungewear.

With the current active lifestyle and adoption of motion-centric subcultures, knitted denims are expected to be in good demand.

Carved in Blue: Can knits still be denim? Does denim only have to be woven?

Aamir: We have seen denims evolve from a working-class uniform to being a fashion icon as well as from five-pocket jeans to skirts, jeggings and dresses. Knitted denim is the new-age evolution of a woven product, catering to indigo enthusiasts and the active modern consumer, bringing in a new era of innovation.

The beauty of denim is that it’s not stuck in time; it’s ever evolving.

Carved in Blue: What type of knits is Arvind producing?

Aamir: Arvind offers a plethora of constructions in indigo dyed knits. But at the apex of our Infiknity approach to jeanswear is its seamless interpretation. Using circular knitting with indigo yarns and integrating it with seamless garment technology that uses less seams or none for dramatically enhancing the comfort factor. Seamless denim is an innovative concept and a possible game changer in the denim clothing industry, offering a perfect mold that goes with all body contours, infusing ease in movement for regular, as well as highly active lifestyles, making this product multifunctional and easy to wear.

Carved in Blue: What are the environmental savings with knits?

Aamir: At Arvind, sustainability is a way of life. Knitted denims, especially seamless technology, enhance the concept by reducing the number of processes in product manufacturing, hence substantially controlling the carbon footprint, energy consumption and contributing towards water conservation.
