Royo Receives Fashion National Award

Royo Textile Group was honored at the third annual Fashion National Awards during a ceremony held at the Museum of Costume in Madrid on Thursday. The mill received the National Textile Industry Award for the textile and raw materials sector.

José Royo, fourth-generation owner of Royo Textile Group, accepted the award presented by Her Majesty Queen Letizia Ortiz.

Royo has researched, developed and manufactured textiles in Spain for more than 100 years. The mill has made significant headway in making denim more sustainable by reducing its energy consumption and CO2 emissions and establishing its own system to reduce the use of water and chemicals.

Tejidos Royo is an original mill using TENCEL® since 1992 and continues to develop collections with TENCEL®.

The company also runs the José and Ana Royo Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides social aid and relief, as well scholarships, internships and training for employees and their families.

The Fashion National Awards was created by Spain’s Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism in 2013 to recognize the creativity and innovations of people, companies and organizations in the fashion industry. A panel of judges determine honorees based on originality, quality, innovation and outstanding contribution.

Other honorees this year included: retailer El Corte Ingles, children’s brand Neck & Neck, eyewear company Woody’s Barcelona, designer Roberto Torretta and television program Flash Fashion.
