Ornmntncrm’s Volker Ketteniss on AI in Design
How can machine learning help us be more creative? According to Volker Ketteniss of Ornmntncrm, the role of artificial intelligence in design is not to supplant humans, but to support them.
“We need to refine our ideas of what creativity is,” he said. “There are certain parts in creative activities that are maybe a little bit mechanical, things that take a really long time…but there are ways how you can use artificial intelligence so you can shorten that.” This helps designers reach a concept sooner and iterate faster, speeding the product creation process.
Volker has been working with Soorty for a few years on trend direction. Recently, the partners took their collaboration in a new direction with HumAIn, a project that used artificial intelligence to create denim designs that break the mold. The AI was fed prompts, and a couple of the resulting looks were created in physical form.
We caught up with Volker at Kingpins New York to talk about his partnership with Soorty and AI in fashion. Watch the interview below.
