How Jeanologia Leveraged Lasers to Create Luxe, Artful Denim

Couture-style artistry and eco-conscious processes are converging in Jeanologia’s Denim Mètiers project.
Volume one of Denim Mètiers is The Laser Atelier, which uses the finishing technique to achieve unexpected looks. While laser is typically associated with treatments like vintage fading and workwear-style details, Jeanologia’s creations elevate lasering to create high-end looks that demonstrate its versatility.
“We want to break the traditional cliches of laser and show its true essence: a living, emotional tool with an artistic soul, capable of adapting to every brand, every designer, every challenge,” says Carme Santacruz, Jeanologia’s creative director.
Jeanologia intends to usher in a “Techno-Mètiers era.” Mètiers d’art—which translates to “artistic crafts”—is often used by luxury brands to describe their collections that incorporate traditional techniques like embroidery. At Jeanologia, this craftsmanship has translated into sophisticated garments.
For instance, a black- and indigo-dyed denim dress features floral detailing that mimics lace that is cutaway to reveal layers of tan, ochre and baby blue organza. Other techniques also play on texture and transparency, using lasers to bring light into garments. Meanwhile, corsets are treated to imitate the look of wool or sun fading.
Denim Mètiers garments were seen on the runway at Kingpins Show China in May, and a selection was on view at Kingpins Show New York in July.

Following The Laser Atelier, Jeanologia will introduce future capsules that showcase new techniques that blend tradition, innovation and sustainability. The intent is to use denim as a medium for creativity and invited the entire value chain to rethink how fashion is made.
“Denim stops being functional to become an unlimited field of experimentation,” said Carme. “The future of denim is not in nostalgia, but in its ability to transform while staying true to its conscious, rebellious soul.”
Chances are, the creators that Jeanologia is trying to reach are already familiar with its technologies. Around 45 percent of all global denim production uses Jeanologia machines, and its equipment is present in more than 70 countries. Although Jeanologia’s solutions have been ubiquitous, this project repositions the company as a creative partner.
“With Denim Métiers we officially launch our creative lab, but innovation has been at the heart of Jeanologia since 1994; it’s part of who we are and how we work,” said Carme. “Our innovation isn’t just about advancing techniques; it’s about creating a meaningful impact that helps others and moves our industry forward. This project embodies that collaborative spirit, opening a new chapter where creativity, technology and shared knowledge redefine the future of denim.”
