Paulita Carlotta Heads to Denim Days With Sustainability in Mind

For Paulita Carlotta designer Rosana Rosales, sustainability is part of the makeup of what she does.

With a line named for people who’ve inspired her on her path, Rosana makes denim that delivers on quality in a way that could only come from a denim lover.

Ahead of Denim Days, where Paulita Carlotta will feature co-branded TENCEL™ Denim tops Carved in Blue caught up with Rosana to find out what drives her.

Carved in Blue: Can you tell us where the Paulita Carlotta name comes from?

Rosana: Paulita Carlotta honors two strong family members, my grandmother and aunt who loved making fashion come to life. They were my inspiration from a young age and today I honor them with a brand that makes fashion affordable using high-quality fabrics and details.

Carved in Blue: How does sustainability factor into what you’re working on?

Rosana: We use sustainable fabrics and are conscious of sustainable practices of our factories.

Carved in Blue: Why do you use TENCEL™ Denim for your designs?

Rosana: We like the hand feel of TENCEL™ and the sustainable aspect.  It is nice to know that the fiber comes from nature.

Carved in Blue: What was your first impression of TENCEL™?

Rosana: It has been too long ago to state as if it was yesterday, but I remember loving the drape and handfeel. I also remember at the time I was using a lot of silk and TENCEL™ which reminded me of a casual version of silk.  That was very appealing.

Carved in Blue: What’s missing from denim today?

Rosana: No one wants to sew fashion bodies in denim. Factories want to make jeans. So I enjoy making fashion styles in denim fabrics with special details which makes them unusual and very appealing.

Carved in Blue: How are you participating in Denim Days?

Rosana: Paulita Carlotta is cobranding with Carved in Blue with some fashion TENCEL™ Denim shirts and tops.

Carved in Blue: What does Denim Days mean for the industry?

Rosana: Denim Days means giving a platform to small, developing brands to reach the end use consumer. These brands get an opportunity to have exposure to the public and allows them to be discovered!

Carved in Blue: What was your first pair of jeans (that you remember)?

Rosana:  A GOLD E.

Carved in Blue: What does Carved in Blue mean to you?

Rosana: A TENCEL™ platform to expose the consumer to the nuances of TENCEL™.
