Hardwear Highlight: Overall
With tradeshows on hold, Carved in Blue is putting its capsule collection out one digital post at a time.
This week, we’re highlighting the Carved in Blue® OVERALL.
The bib-and-brace
overall, overall, or dungaree was a type of garment usually used as protective
clothing when working. Although still worn in industry and agriculture,
denim bib or dungaree overalls are now inextricably linked in the public
imagination with the Great Depression era of the 1930s.
For the Carved in Blue® hardware collection the ENDRIME® team got
their main inspiration from a depression era Red Camel overall acquired in
Greensboro North Carolina in 2015.
The key to this garment was actually getting the fabric right. We partnered with Japanese denim giant Kaihara Denim and they developed a denim with the content: 76% Cotton 24% TENCEL™ Lyocell. Most denim from this period is normally 100% cotton narrow width selvedge denim. We decided to pick this denim which had a width of 58/59” and was non selvedge. The weight of the Kaihara Denim is 13 oz, but it felt a lot more lighter with the Tencel™ Lyocell.

- Depression era fit
- Period correct ecru stitching
- Updated one piece continuous fly construction.
- Clean finished run and felled seams construction on both leg seams
- Vintage inspired 5cm dungaree clips made in Japan.
- Branded ‘Carved in Blue®’ collaboration square woven label,
- Hand stamped pocketing highlighting denim mills and TENCEL™ back-story.
- Leather backed buttons + rivets,
- Hem finished with Union Special 43200G single needle chainstitch
- Interlacing suspender branded strap with lasered collaborator names
- Hammer Loop
- Period correct mis-stitching on back pocket
- Branded ‘Carved in Blue®’ collaboration leather patch
The Jeanologia team washed the garment based both ENDRIME® and Jeanologia Archive. This garment got a EIM low impact score of 26.
