Candiani Makes Sustainable Denim First-Rate and Fun

Leave it to one of Italy’s most premium denim suppliers to create a premium way to present its most sustainable fabric.

Taking to video, Candiani tells us the story of Re-Gen, its innovative 80th Anniversary fabric, using characters, a unicorn and clear insight on what makes its fabric special.

From the fibers, Candiani makes its fabric with 50 percent TENCEL™ Lyocell with REFIBRA™ technology, and 50 percent recycled cotton.

Which means, Candiani says in the video: “No new cotton is used to make this denim. Just think of all the water we can save with this fabric.”

The amount of water it can save, to be precise, is as much as 75 percent of the water used in making other denim fabric.

Re-Gen also makes use of Candiani’s revolutionary Indigo Juice, which keeps indigo superficial on the yarn, making it easier to wash in the laundry. That also means way less water is being used.

From there, Candiani embraces Kitotex technology to even further reduce the water needed for the Re-Gen fabric. Using Chitosan, a naturally occurring polymer derived from recycled shrimp shells, Candiani can fix the dye to the yarn using 50 percent less water than conventional methods.

In all, Candiani says with Re-Gen, it’s able to save 75 percent of water and 65 percent of chemicals for each pair of jeans made with the fabric.
