ISKO I-SKOOL 6 Determines Shortlist Finalists in Denim Design
In its sixth iteration, denim mill ISKO’s I-SKOOL denim design seminar and contest is rapidly approaching its finish and awards ceremony this summer. This year, the contest, which began in January, was based around the creative theme “New Denim Codes.”
The 17 finalists ISKO I-SKOOL 6 chose from the 150 applications submitted include students from some of the most renowned schools in the world—and for the first time ever, denim design professionals. The wide range of topics covered all aspects of denim creation, including denim history and production from field to final garment.
A main component of the contest, the Denim Seminar, was held March 18 and 19 in ISKO’s Creative Room design research hub in Castelfranco Veneto, Italy, where finalists and tutors worked together to improve technical and soft skills through practical garment production sessions.
The partners that lent their expertise to the finalists demonstrate the network of excellence that ISKO has cultivated over its time nurturing and educating young designers. Involved companies included gold partner Jeanologia; silver partners Reca Group, Riri Group and Lenzing Group; and supporting partners Everest Textile Technologies and The Tailor Pattern Support.
“As part of this collective project, one of our main goals is to pass on our knowledge to future generations,” said Rosey Cortazzi, ISKO global marketing director. ISKO’s outlook also led the company to create the Denim Educational Guide, a unique, comprehensive tool that will be made available to the public this year. “We are proud to be partnering with major companies that embrace our same approach,” Cortazzi said.
“SKOOL is an unique platform in denim arena where selected companies meet selected talents of the fashion schools. It’s a great opportunity for Lenzing to inform the newcomer designers why Lenzing fibers are sustainable and how they are used in denim, “ said Hale Ozturk, Lenzing project manager.
ISKO I-SKOOL™ 6 will hold its final award ceremony in July.
