SDW22 Lookbook: Straight 50s Jean 2
The straight-fit classic jean in dark-washed glossy indigo tone is one of the Sustainable Denim Wardrobe essentials. Turn-up hems and a high waistband add a statement update to the classic jeans inspired by the ’50s.
Both women’s pants and jeans were taboo on TV in the early 1950s, and so women would secretly wear them in the home. Also, some schools in the USA banned students from wearing denim. However, once they were seen on TV, women felt more relaxed about wearing them outside of the home, too.
In the 1950’s, Levi’s became popular with young people. It was the symbol of the teenage rebel in TV shows and movies. In 1955, James Dean starred in Rebel Without a Cause; though he lived an astonishingly short life, he had an undeniable influence on fashion in the 1950s.
Starring in only three movies within one year, Dean was killed in a car accident at the age of 24. Released after his death, Dean’s uniform of a white T-shirt, jeans and red jacket was easily and readily copied. In 1957, 150 million pairs of jeans were sold worldwide.
Through this garment, we wanted to reproduce the passage of time, simulating the finish of a naturally worn dark garment. As with the other jean in the collection, it is made using Kaihara selvedge denim. Especially remarkable is the ultra-natural effect that we get with the laser marking, thanks to Jeanologia’s laser technology, particularly in the used area. The final touch is achieved with a super accurate grinding and micro-breaks made with the most precise laser technology on the market, the nano-laser machine.
