Sourcing Journal and Rivet’s Sustainability LA Event Gathered Eco Denim Leaders
Last week, the Lenzing Denim team jetted to Los Angeles to be part of the first-ever West Coast event held by Sourcing Journal and Rivet.
During the full-day conference on Sept. 26, we chatted with industry friends new and old, heard insightful discussions on stage and helped bring TENCEL™ fiber education to key stakeholders.
Some of the top topics on the agenda were circularity, material choices, sustainability regulation and denim innovation. Panels and one-on-one chats covered the commercial ROI on resale, how to boost recycling in denim and switching away from synthetic fibers. Kontoor Brands’ Jeff Frye also detailed how the parent company of Lee and Wrangler approaches sustainability, and he passed around samples of some of the group’s lower impact jeans.
California has become a key denim operations and manufacturing hub, and it is home to a number of our brand partners. Some of them took the stage, including Triarchy’s Adam Taubenfligel, Reformation’s Kathleen Talbot, Everlane’s Katina Boutis, Frank and Oak’s Elisabeth de Gramont and Citizens of Humanity’s Amy Williams.
We were proud to be a sponsor of the event, joining a roster of supporters that included our friends at denim mills Advance Denim and Panther Denim.
At the event, we invited around 30 attendees to join us for a lunch workshop. During the intimate briefing, Tuncay Kilickan and Hayato Nishi took participants through our fiber solutions and the product problems they can solve. Some of the fiber innovations covered included matte TENCEL™ that allows for authentic denim looks and TENCEL™ Modal with Indigo Color technology that lowers the eco impact of dyeing while also making denim resistant to crocking and fading.
“During this workshop, we had the chance to meet high level representatives from leading brands of the U.S. market and present our latest ideas,” said Tuncay. “We gathered roughly 30 people in a classroom of ASU FIDM, which turned out to be an intimate interaction.”
