TENCEL™ Denim Mill Update: Bangladesh & India

TENCEL™ Denim Mill Update: Bangladesh & India

To see the versatility and value proposition of TENCEL™ fibers, look no further than the denim world. Mills are leveraging the wood-based fibers to create jean materials that are soft yet strong, with a lower impact.

TENCEL™ Lyocell is made from trees using a closed-loop process that captures and reuses 99 percent of solvents and water used. In addition to the eco-friendly production behind TENCEL™ Lyocell, our REFIBRA™ technology enables circularity by replacing a portion of inputs with chemically recycled cotton waste.

Carved in Blue caught up with mills in Bangladesh and India to hear how they are using TENCEL™ and TENCEL™ x REFIBRA™ in their collections. More from KG Fabriks, NZ Denim and Shasha Denims below.

Srihari Balakrishnan, managing director

Carved in Blue: What is your group name/theme for TENCEL™ Denim?

Srihari: The group name given by us for TENCEL™ Denims is “Pearl Denim.” The name is derived from the attributes of a pearl, like the luster, the softness and the surface, apart from the excellent drape and touch fabric with TENCEL™ fibers inherit.

Carved in Blue: What does TENCEL™ Lyocell bring to your collections?

Srihari: We are a pioneer in producing true sustainable denim fabrics under three registered brand names: Green Dnm, Product Zero and Nature’s Blue, owned by KG Fabriks. We produce denim fabrics involving wholesome sustainability concepts like lowest water consumption in manufacturing, usage of renewable energy, 100 percent raw material utilization, 30 percent less chemical and dyes footprint in production and packing materials reusage up to 100 percent.

Our complete process is certified green and clean by virtue of the GreenCo Gold award from Confederation of Indian Industries, and all our products are certified Green Denim products by Tuv Nord.

When we use TENCEL™ lyocell in our denim process, the final fabric will have an enhanced sustainability value in it, as TENCEL™ fiber itself is a sustainable raw material and our GreenCo process makes the final fabric the most sustainable denim, without deteriorating the raw material’s green nature in the denim fabric processing.
