Companies, Creatives and Consumers Converge at the Hong Kong Denim Festival

The denim community—including the Lenzing Denim team—headed to Hong Kong this month for the Hong Kong Denim Festival.

Engaging both the industry and consumers, the festival has included seminars, workshops, live music performances and guided tours. Students from the Hong Kong Denim Institute had the chance to join the activities and panels to strengthen their knowledge and opportunities to present their collections.

The festivities kicked off Nov. 3 with an opening ceremony in the historic Central Market district. That same day, the festival also launched a Denim Frontiers – Global Denim Art & Design Showcase that exhibited sustainable innovations from brands, manufacturers and designers and the work of fashion students from the Greater Bay Area. Lenzing was one of the exhibitors, along with Advance Denim, Cone Denim, Levi Strauss, Jeanologia and more.

A Denim Bazaar was also held from Nov. 3-5, featuring a curated group of more than 30 international brands, designers and artists. This goal of this B2B and B2C shopping platform was to provide a space for “cross-cultural exchange” and interaction.

On Sunday, Nov. 5, Transformers ED held its first event in Hong Kong in partnership with Advance Denim. Geared toward students and the broader community interested in denim, the event featured three hours of content.  During the event, Advance Denim had a mill tour, Tonello explained the laundry revolutions and further panels took place about trends, circularity, vintage and creativity. Lenzing’s Harold Weghorst joined the circularity panel to talk about the latest developments at Lenzing.

From Nov. 6-7, the Kingpins Pop Up Denim Fair took place in the Mills Fabrica. It was a smaller but very lively vivid show with mostly attendance of customers from Hong Kong, China, Vietnam and surrounding regions, including Asian divisions of international groups like Gap, Kontoor, Levi’s, Varner, Miss Sixty, J.Crew and many more. Lenzing’s booth showed the latest Kaihara Capsule Collection as well as the Matte TENCEL™ Denim Collection.

On the first day of the show, Tuncay Kilickan participated in the Transformers Foundation Panel to express the reason why Lenzing is a founder member of this organization. A denim design competition award ceremony was held on the second day, and guided tours were scheduled to present the collections at the Mills Fabrica.

The festivities will continue through Nov. 17, with more shopping, workshops and music. See the full schedule here.
