Circularity and Sustainability Top Topics at TENCEL™ Day

A highlight for the TENCEL™ denim team is when we get an opportunity for face-to-face with the industry. Last Friday, Dec. 8, we hosted TENCEL™ Day at our Hong Kong office, inviting partners, including brands and manufacturers, for an immersive, educational event.

The event featured discussions on circularity and sustainable textile innovations, diving into our collective commitment to bringing planet-friendly innovations to life and driving towards a fully circular textile ecosystem.

We welcomed 80 guests, 60 percent of whom came from brands and sourcing offices, including American Eagle Outfitters, Bestseller, Gap, Puma, L.L. Bean, Lidl, Target, Newtimes Group, MGF, Eralda and LF Sourcing. Other attendees came from our supply chain partners such as spinners, fabric mills and garment manufacturers.

Our colleague Alan Hung, senior business development manager in apparel at Lenzing Group, shared insights into circularity trends in apparel. We were also joined by industry experts Lei (Gloria) Yao from the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel Limited (HKRITA) and Philippe Li from The Mills Fabrica, who both shared their firsthand updates on bio-based materials, textile innovation acceleration and regulatory changes.

Shedding light on how new textile regulations are impacting the industry, our moderator Marianne Mclean-Atkins, education lead of Redress, lead a panel discussion with our industrial partners shared insightful views on the topic. Lenzing’s senior commercial director in textiles China Vincent Hu was part of the panelists in that section.

“One thing you’ll never create by a zoom call is the chat you get from having a mix of industry players in the same room. Thank you TENCEL™ for tearing us away from our screens and ensuring we connect,” wrote Marianne on LinkedIn about TENCEL™ Day.

We had a wonderful day with everyone talking about textile sustainability. We’re looking forward to more in-person events in 2024.
