Denim Gets Its Day, In China
Denim continues to be a bigger part of fashion weeks worldwide. Lenzing, along with Cotton Incorporated, Prosperity Textile and more, gathered for Denim Cool Day, a fashion trade event organized by the Asia Denim Innovation Alliance (DIA) in Guangzhou, China to promote new ways denim can be applied to fashion collections.
Denim Cool Day took place on Aug. 23 during the Guangdong Fashion Week. The event, which drew designers, mills, fabric specialists and brands, included a denim fashion forum, an exhibition of denim capsule garments and a fashion show.
The timing of the event was aimed to capitalize on the growing number of designers featuring denim in their runway collections. “Guangzhou is the most important city in China’s denim industry and the Guangdong Fashion Week is one of the most important events in South China fashion industry,” said Vincent Qin, DIA Founder and CEO.
Lenzing participated in the exhibition to highlight TENCEL® and was one of four speakers in a denim trend forum. Speakers touched on a number of denim topics, including A/W 2017 denim trend predictions, an analysis of the denim consumer market in China and U.S., the benefits of TENCEL® denim, and inspiration for denim design.
“Green footprints in the denim production process are more and more important nowadays. Laser wash is paid more attention for its lower impact to the environment. TENCEL® is the best choice to apply laser wash. The patterns formed on TENCEL® denim are much deeper and attractive compared to other material bases. The 4S collection represents an eco-friendly method to create fashionable and modern denim,” said Karen Kang, Business Development at Lenzing.
One of the most popular concepts during Denim Cool Day was knitted denim with TENCEL®. Jacquard denim with laser treatment, novelty in denim, new washings and couture-inspired collections in jeanswear—which Qin described as a major story for women—also garnered attention from attendees.
“At this Denim Cool Day, we elevate denim on the[same] stage of fashion week. Let denim be a highlight, let denim people gather and know each other, let new ideas and sustainable concepts inspire every one. This are the purpose of the event,” he explained.
