Dod Alfaiataria Makes Music Again with TENCEL™ and Canatiba

Brazilian brand Dod Alfaiataria is all about the intersection of fashion, art and culture, and its latest collaboration continues this approach with a focus on music.
Dubbed “Dod Records,” the collection pays homage to the musical genres of soul, jazz, rhythm and blues and hip hop that were all originated by Black musicians. Comprising six pieces, the line was made with TENCEL™ textiles from Brazilian mill Canatiba Textil. This marks the third team up from these three partners, with the goal of making interesting tailoring that is also better for the environment.
Dod Records includes three pieces in indigo and three in white, all of which are made of 100 percent TENCEL™ Lyocell. The focus is on comfort dressing that simultaneously offers quality. There are wide leg pleated trousers inspired by ‘90s skater attire, pleated shorts and relaxed Bermuda length shorts. For tops, Dod Alfaiataria designed a cropped coat that is a hybrid of a blazer and a utility jacket.

“We were born from individual needs and cultivated this personality: We take measurements (custom made), choose unique fabrics and produce authenticity,” said Jubba Sam, founder and creative director of Dod Alfaiataria. “We made room for different types of bodies and established new parameters, creating non-traditional tailoring.”
In addition to style, the collection centers on sustainable fabrics. TENCEL™ Lyocell is made from responsibly sourced wood using a closed-loop production process. Compared to generic lyocell, the production of TENCEL™ fibers generates about 50 percent less carbon emissions and consumes about half the water.

“In this partnership, we highlight the quality and innovation of denim, along with the Bárbaro MaxSkin fabric line, in addition to incorporating the icon of the hare, Dod’s logo, in a jacquard construction,” said Ivna Barreto, marketing manager at Canatiba Textil. “TENCEL™ offers the look of tailoring, combined with comfort and fluidity. The exclusive design elevates the product.”

For the collection’s marketing, the brand tapped two local DJs, Suelen Melo and Nyack. The images were shot on the rooftop music bar Matiz, a venue that invites DJs to play non-house music.

The collection launch has spanned two continents. During Paris Fashion Week, Dod Alfaiataria took up residence for a store-in-store within the concept luxury streetwear boutique Maison Guava from Jan. 21 to 23. Back in its hometown of São Paulo, Dod Alfaiataria will host an event on March 20. For a global audience, the pieces are also available on the brand’s e-commerce site.

Previously, Dod Alfaiataria, Canatiba Textil and TENCEL™ aligned on a collection that paid homage to Afro-Brazilian culture and backyard samba music. And before that, the partners created a gender-neutral collection.
“Collaborating with partner brands such as Dod Alfaiataria and Canatiba Textil allows us to innovate and inspire the fashion market, always prioritizing sustainability,” said Juliana Jabour, development and new business manager in South America at the Lenzing Group. “This partnership marks our third collaboration with these brands, reinforcing the idea that sustainability is an ongoing commitment. Small actions, such as consciously choosing materials and responsible production processes, have a significant impact. Our cellulosic fibers are biodegradable, compostable and come from wood from responsible and certified sources.”
