Hardwear Highlight: Selvedge Trucker Jacket

Hardwear Highlight: Selvedge Trucker Jacket

With tradeshows on hold, Carved in Blue is putting its capsule collection out one digital post at a time.

This week, we’re highlighting the Carved in Blue® SELVEDGE TRUCKER JACKET.

The iconic denim jacket and its history is well documented most certainly starts with Levi’s. When it came to recreated a denim jacket for the Carved in Blue® hardware collection the ENDRIME® team got their main inspiration from a depression Original 1950’s Levi’s Type Two Jacket acquired in Pakistan during a vintage hunting inspiration trip.

The Levi’s 507XX jacket also known as Type Two. The 507XX jacket is the modernised version of the 506XX. The most important differences from its earlier counterpart Type One is that its less boxy than the 506XX, a little bit longer, they added two breast pockets instead of one and removed the cinch back. Officially the jacket was introduced in 1953. This same year Levi’s introduced their ‘two side’ Levi’s Red Tab. The first editions of the 507XX jackets were produced with leather patches on the back neck. The later versions have the paper tags. They switched the leather patch into paper patches as it was cheaper in production so as a counter to the growing denim competition in the market. The Levi’s 507XX jacket became the ultimate worker jacket for cowboys, farmers to complete their Tuxedo style.

We were very lucky that Candiani Mill based in Italy agreed to supply their 2019 ITMA Sustainable Innovation award winning fabric which is a 50/50% blend of TENCEL ™ x REFIBRA ™  Lyocell and recycled cotton was used for this garment. Not only is this one of the most sustainable fabrics every produced to date, it was also produced on a vintage narrow width Selvedge Loom. This was the only fabric we considered for this style.
