Ancient Peru Meets Future TENCEL® In Inca Indigo
World Textile Sourcing (WTS), a Lima, Peru based textile manufacture that creates full package knit garments for fashion brands, has teamed up with Lenzing for a new indigo inspired capsule collection using TENCEL®
Named Inca Indigo (after the ancient Peruvian civilization) the new collection features garments made from a TENCEL® indigo yarns. Staying true to its name, the Inca Indigo collection is 100% Peruvian: designed, spun, knitted and sewn all in Peru.
With the unmatched softness of TENCEL®, the comfort of knits and the authentic style of denim, the Inca Indigo collection includes apparel for both men’s and women’s in tops, bottoms and dresses.
“It was exciting to collaborate with Lenzing on the Inca Indigo project melding the ancient Indigo dying technique with the modern TENCEL® fiber creating something new, yet steeped in history,” said Alexis Stuart, director at WTS.
Pieces like the “feather light leaf tee” with blue contrast laser printed design is made from 100 % TENCEL®. This composition gives the shirt a super soft hand and adds authentic indigo wash character.
Other pieces like the Indigo Bodycon Midi Dress are made from a blend of TENCEL® and cotton composition to give the jersey a smooth, polished look while still featuring the collections trademark indigo color.
And for the time being, Peru and the United States can import yarn-forward supply chain garments freely, which means there will be no duties on the Inca Indigo collection.
“Indigo dying in Peru has an ancient history. Recently, a discovery of indigo dyed cotton was found inside an archeological site in northern Peru. The discovery makes the cotton fragments the oldest example of indigo used by humans as dye. So it is great to link the most ancient history of textiles with the most modern of denim stories,” said Michael Kininmonth, the Inca Indigo project manager from Lenzing.
