Introducing Matte TENCEL™, Designed for Indigo Denim
For decades, TENCEL™ has been used in denim to provide softness and sustainability. And the fiber has typically added a subtle sheen to indigo materials.
But while shine has its appeal, there has also been a market demand for a less lustrous look. In response to this, Lenzing is introducing matte TENCEL™ Lyocell to allow for more versatility in indigo fabrications. These fibers are made to scatter light to reduce the amount of sheen off a fabric.
“As a leader in fiber production, we work closely with our customers and mill partners to address their product needs. Our partners wanted the option to choose denim fabrics that are less shiny, and we listened,” said Tricia Carey, director of global business development denim and Americas, Lenzing AG. “By implementing an innovative production process to create matte TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers, we are setting a new standard for indigo applications.”
Like conventional TENCEL™ Lyocell, matte TENCEL™ is made with responsibly sourced wood pulp using a closed-loop production process. These fibers have the same sustainability profile as glossy TENCEL™, including biodegradability. Matte TENCEL™ will also be traceable through physical fiber identification, providing peace of mind that the raw materials are legitimate.
This latest introduction provides wider options for denim design. It will also enable mills to create deeper indigo hue without sheen. But like conventional TENCEL™, these fibers have a silky handfeel and drape.
Matte TENCEL™ is launching with international mill partners from China, India, Pakistan and Spain, including Advance Denim, Artistic Fabric Mills Pvt. Ltd, Arvind Limited, Kipas Denim, KG Denim Limited, Panther Denim/Tat Fung and Textil Santanderina.
Join us virtually at Kingpins24 from Oct. 19-21 as we debut matte TENCEL™ to the denim community.
