Egypt is an emerging hub for denim and other textiles, and the industry is taking notice.
On Feb. 2 and 3, Denimsandjeans held its first Egyptian show in Cairo at IHG Citystars, bringing its intimate, buyer-only trade format to the northern African nation. This added to its existing show footprint across Asia, with events in India, Vietnam and Japan.
Explaining the move into Egypt, Denimsandjeans called the country “the most promising upcoming sourcing location for all things denim,” noting that its textile and garment exports grew 20 percent year-over-year to $4 billion. On the list of factors propelling this growth are a 6,000-year-old textile history; skilled, affordable labor; a location that puts it five days away from the EU and 12 days away from the East Coast of the U.S.; and duty-free access to 100 countries, including the U.S. and those in the EU.
Throughout the show, panels dove into the potential of the Egyptian textile industry as well as sustainability and trends, with speakers from Guess, Hugo Boss and more. One trend helping the country’s textile industry advance is the investment in spinning capabilities. This will reduce the reliance on outsourced yarn from locations like Türkiye, China and Pakistan, creating a more vertical supply chain.
The Lenzing denim team attended the show, and many of our mill partners and friends in chemicals, raw materials and laundry from Egypt, Türkiye, Pakistan, India and Italy exhibited, with top management present on the floor. DenimandJeans Egypt drew crowds, with buyers from lobal brands and retailers like Inditex, H&M, Kiabi, Hugo Boss, Only, Next, Mavi and more.
Following Denimandjeans, Lenzing held a Cairo edition of its Lenzing Talks series, which has previously been hosted in Türkiye, Brazil, Portugal and Mexico. This almost full-day event brought together about 100 guests from across the supply chain, including spinners, weavers, knitters, garment manufacturers, brands and more. Attendees spanned local companies and exporters.
Throughout the day, Lenzing team members gave presentations on the company, the unique selling proposition of our fibers, our recent innovations, our environmentally friendly production practices and technical topics. With a cross-section of the industry gathered, we also spoke about the state of the sector.
This was our first Lenzing Talks event of 2025, and we’ll be hosting more workshops this year. Stay tuned to see where we are headed next.
