Mills Share Their Experiences with TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100, Part 1

TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 has changed the game in denim. While conventional TENCEL™ has been used in denim for decades now, these new fibers are opening up more applications for the wood-based materials.
The differentiator for HV100 is variocut technology. Unlike standard TENCEL™ that is all the same exact length, the fibers are cut to varied lengths. Where conventional lyocell is silky and drapey, HV100 offers a more texturized look akin to fibers like cotton or hemp. This likeness extends to appearance in the weave, dye uptake and wash down.
Dozens of mills are already using TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 in programs, and the TENCEL™ Denim team has just partnered on the second showcase collection with manufacturing partners. Here, Advance Denim, AFM, Atlas Denim, Black Peony and Blue Diamond share their experiences and takeaways from their work with HV100.
Advance Denim – China and Vietnam
Mark Ix, marketing director of North America

“TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 bridges the gap between true vintage denim aesthetics and high-performance sustainability. TENCEL™ has grown in popularity due to its sustainability, drape and luster, but there has always been a corner of the market that wanted the softness and sustainability without the shine. Since TENCEL™ Lyocell HV100 uses the ingenious variocut technology to add fiber length variation that after spinning and dyeing and create a yarn with the texture of cotton and superior indigo uptake for an incredible vintage wash down. Advance Denim has produced a wide range of weights and constructions to take advantage of this groundbreaking technology.”

AFM – Pakistan
Kaleem Ullah, manager, research and development
“At Artistic Fabric Mills, the fabric Richie is among our top-performing fabrics. We first developed Richie TENCEL™, which was widely appreciated for its soft hand feel and drape. Building on its success, we introduced Richie HV100, an advanced variant with an authentic and cotton-rich look and improved dye performance. Richie HV100 delivers better shade outcome, while Richie TENCEL™ may show a slight grey tone. Today, Richie HV100 stands out in our upcoming collection where comfort, enhanced character and color expression are key.”

Atlas Denim – Türkiye
Hanife Yetim, R&D manager
“TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 offers a premium and comfortable wearing experience in denim thanks to its natural and matte appearance close to cotton, sustainable production, soft and comfortable texture, low wrinkle properties and breathability.”

Black Peony – China and Vietnam
Jessica Zhu, vice president of sales

“TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 innovates denim with a soft, cotton-like luster and comfortable hand feel. While offering slightly less drape, it provides superior everyday wearability. The fiber blends excellently with cotton and acetate, allowing versatile fabric design. As a sustainable choice, it significantly reduces environmental impact with great moisture management, perfect for premium, high-comfort denim.”

Blue Diamond – China
Maggie Zhang, sales manager

“TENCEL™ Lyocell – HV100 is a new type of fiber designed to mimic the beauty of natural fibers. Manufactured using a closed-loop process, it supplies short fibers ranging from 10 millimeters to 28 millimeters in length, whose irregular distribution mimics the shape of natural fibers such as cotton. In blends, the higher the HV100 content, the closer the yarn’s irregularity is to cotton. When blended with standard lyocell fibers, increasing the proportion of HV100 produces more detail, resulting in a more cotton-like, natural appearance.”
