Mud Jeans Meets TENCEL™ Lyocell in a Circular Collaboration

Mud Jeans has made a name for itself in circularity. The Netherlands-based denim brand incorporates post-consumer recycled cotton into its fabrics, takes back its customers’ jeans and pioneered concepts like a jean leasing program that offers an alternative to ownership.
Now, Mud Jeans is teaming up with TENCEL™ on a collaboration that blends its recycled cotton with TENCEL™ Lyocell, which are produced using closed-loop processes.1 The combination of the two fibers creates jeans that have a classic look but a soft hand feel courtesy of TENCEL™.
“Blending TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers into our recycled-cotton denims gives us the best of both worlds: the soft, cool hand feel and fluid drape people love, plus the strength and breathability great jeans demand,” said Jolanda Brink, CEO of MUD Jeans. “It elevates comfort without sacrificing authenticity—and fits perfectly with our mission to make circular fashion the new normal.”

A B Corp., Mud partners with recyclers and mills to reuse denim waste. By using recycled materials, the brand’s jeans have sustainable savings. A continuous life cycle assessment (LCA) shows that each pair of Mud’s denim uses approximately 90 percent less water and generates around 47 percent less carbon dioxide.
Bolstering the sustainable profile of the jeans collaboration, TENCEL™ Lyocell’s production uses at least 50 percent less water and creates at least 50 percent less carbon emissions compared to generic lyocell.2 Made out of wood from controlled or certified sources,3 the lyocell is manufactured in a closed-loop system that recycles at least 99.8 percent of the solvent used.1
The jeans in the collection are meant to be timeless. Fits include a loose straight fit and a tapered leg jean for men, and barrel and slim silhouettes for women. Washes range from rinse to lighter stonewashed hues and deep blacks to grays.

“Mud Jeans proves that circular design and premium craftsmanship can move the industry forward,” said Tuncay Kilickan, head of business development, denim at Lenzing. “Our certified-source, wood-based fibers and closed-loop production help reduce resource use, and when combined with MUD’s take-back program and high-recycled content, the result is denim that looks timeless, feels exceptional and moves the industry towards a lower impact.”
