Naveena NDL Nearly Nixes Indigo For HighTex Award

Naveena (NDL) Denim’s passion shone at Bluezone, where the Pakistani mill took home a Keyhouse HighTex Award during Munich Fabric Start.

Bestowed upon companies demonstrating real fabric innovation, Naveena wowed the judges with its sustainable and soft denim using minimal indigo and maximum water savings.

Carved in Blue caught up with Rashid Iqbal, executive director at Naveena, right after the show to get his thoughts on Keyhouse, Bluezone.

Carved in Blue: Tell us what is unique about the fabric for which you won the HighTex Award at Bluezone?

Rashid: The idea was to “Do Less get More” to achieve dark indigo shade with soft hand feel. In order to achieve this, our development team came up with this unique blend of TENCEL™  Modal with Eco Color technology (in navy). The final product resulted in amazing hand feel and unique wash down due to TENCEL™ Modal with Eco Color technology which is a spun dyed fiber. We ended up developing sustainable denim with a rich indigo look using less than 1 percent of indigo.  There is also a large water savings with spun dyed fibers.

Carved in Blue: What impressed you about Keyhouse, any new findings?

Rashid: Keyhouse is a platform where mills present their innovative fabrics with smart features. There were many innovative products, and I found the Orta Solar Clean project most interesting.

Carved in Blue: What do you like most about Bluezone?

Rashid: Bluezone is a platform to showcase denim fabrics for the German market. The panel discussion, seminars on Women in Denim, was the highlight.

Carved in Blue: Where can we find you this fall?

Rashid: You will see us at Kingpins Amsterdam and Denim Premiere Vision London with our SS-21 collection.
