SDG Decoded: SDG #3 – Good Health & Well-Being

SDG Decoded: SDG #3 – Good Health & Well-Being

About 400 million people lack basic healthcare, according to the United Nations Development Programme, while 40 percent fail to have social protection. Ensuring access to physical and mental healthcare is the driving force behind Sustainable Development Goal #3 – Good Health & Well-Being.

For our next chapter of SDG Decoded, we checked in with Soorty, Lucky and Saitex for inspiration on how they’re helping better the lives of people around the world.

Be sure to check out our segments in this series, which highlight progress being made for SDG #6, SDG #9, SDG #12, SDG #13 and SDG #17.

Soorty

Carved in Blue: How are you tackling SDG #3?

Ebru Debbağ, executive director global sales: Soorty’s LifeWorx program is part of our CSR commitment. We built the Soorty Dermatology Ward and Intensive Care Units at Pakistan’s largest hospital (Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre), and we’re building a state-of-the-art Cardiac Health facility at the Indus Hospital in Korangi, Karachi. This 200-bed hospital treats more than 1,400 people each day for free.

In partnership with the SINA-Child Life Foundation, we also built the Musa Soorty Centre in the Moach Goth area of Karachi to serve 40,000-plus lower-income patients, the majority of whom are children.

Finally, our Heart 2 Heart Initiative facilitates donation drives for six hospitals, medical centers and blood banks.

Carved in Blue: What does this goal mean for your company?

Ebru: We believe that good health is pivotal to leading a fulfilling life and is the right of every human being.

Lucky

Carved in Blue: How are you tackling SDG #3?

Allison Charalambous, senior manager of sustainability and social responsibility: 2020 is focused on the impact we can have outside of our offices through SDG #3 and SDG #6. Locally, this means community partnerships in Los Angeles focused on the homeless crisis and our relationship and proximity to the Los Angeles River. Nationally, this means bringing customers innovative product that reduces environmental impact.

Saitex

Carved in Blue: How are you tackling SDG #3?

Sanjeev Bahl, founder: Saitex funded Maison Chance’s dental care clinic at their Social Center, where they house and support orphans, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities in a rural area of the Dak Nong province. For most beneficiaries, this is their first time receiving any professional dental evaluation or care.

In our employee assistance program, Saitex has a policy to provide support for employees who face further medical difficulties and don’t have access or resources to proper care.
