Tejidos Royo’s new Suave capsule with TENCEL®

Tejidos Royo’s new Suave capsule with TENCEL®

Founded in 1903, Tejidos Royo has produced been a leader in Europe’s textile sector for more than a century. Its two production facilities in Valencia, Spain produce fabrics exported to customers in more than 30 countries.

Royo has announced its new Suave capsule collection for Spring/Summer 2018, developed with TENCEL® fiber. Suave Capsule SS18 includes fabrics of 100% TENCEL®, as well as new blends with linen that for a special level of elegance and comfort. Royo draws in the past and the future to the present, with its tagline: “Looking at the past with eyes of the future.”

Royo calls denim the “protagonist” of the collection, its versatility aided by TENCEL®, in colors from baby blue to black, and indigo in between. The collection takes its cues from three fashion trends, which Royo describes as “Marine Soul” inspired by nautical explorers, ship sails and sailor knots; “Adventure Dream” touched by the unique romanticism of pioneering women; and “Wild Life” with a wild, Latin sensibility brought by tropical prints and exuberant summery color.

This is another iteration of denim, where the ability of lightweight fabrics to flow contradicts their strength, something that Jose Rafael Royo, Shareholder, attributes to the silkiness of TENCEL®, and its ability to work in blends.

Carved in Blue recently asked Jose about the new collection and its context.

Carved in Blue: What made you develop these fabrics? Was it seeing design trends or how consumers are buying and using clothes?

Jose: TENCEL® is fashionable, it’s a reality. Royo Textile gave a new twist to the traditional TENCEL®, looking for an extraordinary hand feel, fresh looks — different from what you can find in the market.

There is a lot of TENCEL® in the world, so we had to do something different. Our Spring capsule is proof of this new statement, but it cannot be explained with words. You have to see it, and feel these finishes.=

The Suave Capsule, once again is a breakthrough regarding softness, design and technology. We offer lightweight fabrics with an impressive resistance and strength. Thanks to our technology, our washing processes are shorter than those in the market. By reducing the washing and dyeing timing, we dramatically reduce the second quality products for our customers.

Carved in Blue: How would you characterize the ability to accommodate movement?

Jose: Because TENCEL® fiber is a “silky fiber,” it always maintains light movement. The drape and flow provides a unique feeling and when in combination with Elastane, the results are spectacular.

Carved in Blue: What are the ideal ways to use these fabrics?

Jose: If we focus on 100% TENCEL®, all patterns are possible, from tops to jogging pants. We provide a large variety of weights, which covers a wide range of styles.

When we talk about blends, we definitely focus on pants and jackets, always on the smart casual trend, derived from the youth market.

Many times TENCEL® is considered a commodity, but with our special blends and finishes, we are seeking, for this smart casual, a new trend to differentiate the global markets.

Carved in Blue: What are the differences between the three capsules — Marine Soul, Adventure Dream, and Wild Life?

Jose: MARINE SOUL has a nautical character and a minimalist-explorer style. Details that remind us of sailor elements, such as boat sails, knots and ropes that remind us of this environment, with sober and elegant lines which in turns brings you to the future.

ADVENTURE DREAM is a nautical-explorer trend inspired by Corsair women who traveled on board the first conquering ships. Garments with artisanal details such as crochet and laces that bring us to past tenses with reference to the handcrafted products.

And WILD LIFE is multicultural, with Latin and tropical influences, summer weights,  and exuberant colors, with dresses full of flounces. A reflection of mixed cultural backgrounds and globalization as a main topic.

Carved in Blue: How does TENCEL® help Royo achieve the performance and softness of these fabrics?

Jose: Technology has helped us find new blend possibilities, giving us the possibility to work with TENCEL® to create many different aesthetics from matte to shine. Something for everyone.

Carved in Blue:  What does “Carved in Blue” mean to you?

Jose: For us Carved in Blue has become a benchmark of trends and current news in the textile sector. It’s a good blog to keep “up-to-date” in all textile news and happenings. It’s a must in the textile industry.
