Video: See How Chottani Is Caring for the Planet
Climate change is affecting the entire world, but Pakistan in particular is facing challenges tied to a warming Earth. The nation is one of the top 10 countries that is facing a climate change emergency. Just in the last two decades, global warming has cost Pakistan $3.8 billion in value and 9,989 lives lost.
Responding to this crisis, garment maker Chottani is working to protect its home, guided by the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The company partners with WWF Pakistan on programs such as mangrove and tree plantation. Mangroves are coastal vegetation that helps to defend shore communities from natural events such as floods and hurricanes.
Supporting biodiversity, Chottani helps to conserve and support species including humpback whales, snow leopards and Indus River dolphins. Chottani is also helping to protect the livelihoods of fishermen and support plastic-free beaches.
Chottani has worked on sustainable cotton growing initiatives. At the production level, Chottani uses sustainable materials such as TENCEL™ Lyocell and eco-responsible processes like denim finishing technology from Jeanologia. The facility also has solar panels to help provide power with less eco impact.
“It is our humble urge to everyone to come and support us, because we will champion in defending our earth at a national and a global level,” said Kinza Ejaz, head of sustainability and CSR at Chottani Industries.
