Bluezone Brings Denim ‘Discovery’ to Global Attendees

When it comes to finding out the latest ideas, collections and solutions in denim, attending trade shows is unparalleled. Walking the aisles, going to seminars and talking with peers offers an opportunity for inspiration, learning and sharing.

For the latest edition of Munich Fabric Start’s Bluezone denim show, held Jan. 24-25, the theme was “Discovery.” As Bluezone explained, “Discovery is an invitation to explore the new and unknown, to go on a journey together with denim and fashion brands, but without losing themselves and their unique identities in the process.”

Part of this newness theme revolved around sustainable innovation. Eco developments were on view at exhibitor booths, and transparency, circularity and preferred fibers were among the topics covered during the two full days of seminars. Keynotes also addressed fashion trends, and talks with startups and solutions providers tackled everything from fit to digital design.

2023 marks Bluezone’s 20th year. Over the last two decades, the event has gathered an attendee list that goes beyond the denim world. The exhibitors this January included mills and manufacturers from Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Europe—including Spain, Italy and Turkey—and more. Among the more than 100 mill vendors were Bossa, Calik Denim, Isko, Kipas, Orta, Panther Denim, Prosperity Textile, Tejidos Royo and more.

On the first night, Bluezone hosted a “Club Night” party at Motorworld. This crowded event gave attendees the chance to mingle, make new contacts and dance.

“The first day of the fair today, Tuesday, already showed how strong the momentum for denim is, how innovation-driven this market segment is and how strong its influence is on the entire fashion business,“ said Sebastian Klinder, managing director of Munich Fabric Start.

Lenzing was among the exhibitors at Bluezone, highlighting our solutions for the denim industry. The TENCEL™ booth displayed the Simple Pleasures Sustainable Denim Wardrobe collection. We also spotlighted Artistic Milliners’ mechanically recycled TENCEL™ garments and zero cotton and zero virgin cotton creations from our mill partners.

We were inspired by what we saw at the show. Manufacturers are getting playful with denim design. We saw a lot of embellishments, shiny coatings and patchwork-inspired patterns.

“The industry is all on all hopeful for 2023. The ‘low-demand’ problem seems to be weakening throughout the new year,” noted Tuncay Kilickan, head of global business development, denim at Lenzing.
