Dod Alfaiataria Honors Brazilian Music History for TENCEL™ Collection

Brazilian fashion brand Dod Alfaiataria is paying homage to samba music’s heritage while serving sustainability demands in its second capsule collection collaboration with TENCEL™ and local mill Canatiba Textil.

Dubbed “Quintal 540,” the collection references Rio de Janeiro-based group Oito Batutas’ Parisian tour in 1922, which included six months of performing at the nightclub Schéhérazade. With Quintal 540, Dod Alfaiataria is bringing the connection between music and fashion to the forefront and celebrating an often-overlooked era in popular Brazilian music.

Reflecting the country’s samba roots, Quintal 540 is centered on tailored, genderless garments. Made in denim fabrics from Canatiba in TENCEL™-cotton blends, the range features three pant styles and a jacket. The collection launched April 4 on Dod’s e-commerce site and select stores.

“This partnership with Dod and TENCEL™ is very important for us, as they make us review the possibilities that our fabrics can present,” said Ivna Barreto, marketing manager at Canatiba Textil. “All the pieces bring a very strong current fashion concept combined with product excellence. And, this time, we increased our product mix. In addition to TENCEL™ fiber, Canatiba also complements our cotton and elastane fabrics. We use a dyed yarn that shows a stripe made in it, which enriches the jeanswear culture.”

This is Dod’s second co-branded collection with Canatiba and TENCEL™, building on the partnership that began last year. ‘‘Once again, we sought to partner with Canatiba and TENCEL™ to bring this collection, inspired by samba, to life,” said Jubba Sam, founder and creative director of Dod Alfaiataria. “The first collaboration was incredible, exceeding our expectations. And thinking about products made in Brazil, with foreign technology, makes perfect sense. We seek to improve national raw materials, showing that it is possible. This partnership with Canatiba Textil and TENCEL™ demonstrates that we have high quality products in Brazil, combining technology and design to create unique and incredible pieces.”

Co-branded partnerships like this offer an opportunity to collaborate and advance sustainability by sharing expertise and technology. ‘‘The partnership with brands such as Dod Alfaiataria and Canatiba Textil is fundamental to building a more sustainable future for the fashion industry,” said Juliana Jabour, business development manager of textiles business, South America at the Lenzing Group. “We believe that sustainability is an ongoing commitment, where every small action, from choosing materials to production, contributes to a greater whole. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, we can drive positive changes and inspire other companies to join this journey.”
