ISKO Cottonized Reveals Modern Denim Looks
Companies are increasingly looking for new ways to add sustainability into the products they make, and the latest trend among denim players seems to be making cotton-free denim.
For Turkish textile manufacturer ISKO, responsibility has driven much of what the company does with its denim—and that’s what led to its latest innovation, ‘Cottonized’
“Cotton has always been the principal fiber in denim fabric, but ISKO has continued to push the boundaries of denim construction, researching new and novel fibers. ISKO Cottonized™ employs LENZING™ Lyocell, LENZING™ Modal, and other fiber blends to produce denim fabric with a look, drape, and wash-down unlike any other denim, but without using cotton,” the company said in a statement.
Cottonless jeans may be hard for some to wrap their heads around, but the idea seems to be catching on as cotton’s impact on the environment becomes more apparent.
“These fabrics, constructed using regenerated cellulose, have a lower environmental impact such as water saving, energy saving, and reducing emission,” ISKO noted.
The innovative man-made fibers don’t need as much water as natural fibers would, and ISKO said water saving is considered throughout multiple steps in the production process—including reducing wastewater. As part of the process, biodegradable dissolving wood pulp is reintroduced to the production cycle.
“Responsible production also means taking care of arable lands and preserving them to food crops,” ISKO said, adding, “As an SAC ( Sustainable Apparel Coalition) verified member, ISKO sources raw materials in its Cottonized fabrics from Lenzing, SAC/HIGG Index verified supplier.”
