SDW22 Lookbook: Printed Blouse
As with all aspects of our Sustainable Denim Wardrobe collections, we endeavor to use the latest and most responsible products and processes available in the textile and apparel industry. This approach also applies to textile printing—something which historically we have not included in our collections.
Today the majority of all textiles are printed using rotary screen print machines. In comparison, digital textile printing is relatively young compared to “analogue” printing—such as rotary and screen printing. However, digital inkjet printing is the fastest growth printing technology globally and is predicted to grow significantly in the next few years.
Our print partner for this collection was Netherlands based House of U; a digital textile printing house with a strong focus on product development and sustainability. They offer a range of sustainable fabric bases, including TENCEL™ Lyocell, via an online platform.
The advantages to us for choosing digital textile printing was the design process plus the environmental savings. The ability to have seamless online communication between Spain, Brazil and the Netherlands was a major benefit, as was the facility to improve or revise the design at will.
The technology allowed for the printing of small fine details, which was important to tell our story, along with high color definition and good dimensional accuracy—all on a short run at reasonable cost. Compared to conventional printing, there were significant savings on energy and water consumption.
The blouse design, one of the most iconic wardrobe essentials of all times, is featured here on the 100 percent TENCEL™ Lyocell printed sateen by House of U and is combined with a denim collar, cuffs and ribbon.
Based in surrealism with psychedelic overtones, this print design was balanced with elements inspired by traditional scarves layouts and stained glass windows. Mixing both the multicolors with pure black and white areas, it also explores many shades of blue to create an almost monochromatic look when paired with denim, as a way of toning down the shapes.
