SDW22 Lookbook: Skinny Trumpet Jean
This most modern of denim styles is documented as having roots dating back to the 1800s, when ultra-tight trousers—primarily used by men—became fashionably practical, as well as being desirable when horse riding.
In the early 1900s, close-fitting pants slowly became more acceptable for women to wear, but exclusively for activities like sports or certain manual labor. They were made of canvas and twill, and some even came in denim.
Although skinny jeans have their roots in the 19th century, it was the end of the 20th century into the new millennium that saw the continuous rise of the skinny pant, as silhouettes became slimmer and slimmer and stretch denim came into its own.
The addition of TENCEL™ Lyocell into fabric blends made the skinny jean even more ubiquitous, as softness and comfort were taken to the next level; “super soft, super stretch” was here to stay.
Indeed, only in 2021, Levi’s chief executive Chip Bergh told investors he did not “think skinny jeans are ever going away on the women’s side of the business,” despite a clear trend towards “casual, looser-fitting clothes in general.”
Our nod to this genre is a classic five-pocket, high-rise and trumpeted bottom jean in a super-dark indigo shade. A subtle degradé effect on the top of the garment has been made using Jeanologia’s Compact Super Laser technology for a low environmental impact finishing.
This modern fabric from Orta, the well-known Turkish denim mill, matches the consumer needs for comfort and performance and embraces all body types. This fabric base is an extra soft version which uses both TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers.
